Wellington Phoenix and adidas Football yesterday unveiled the adapted home shirt for the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.
Club Captain, Andrew Durante, says it’s always an honour to put on the Wellington Phoenix jersey and having represented this club for over ten years, he understands the honour involved in pulling on the black and yellow stripes.
“Wearing these stripes gives you that lift that everyone in the City is behind you and that will give us the confidence to do great things this season.
“The main bold black and yellow stripes of the home jersey is very much the identity of the Wellington Phoenix
“Having been at the club for so long, I have immersed myself in the club so I understand what it means for the fans to follow this club every year.
“I know that they respect hard work and passion and we are more determined than ever to fight and deliver results on the pitch this year.”
Durante was part of the Phoenix team who made the finals in 2014 and he would love to replicate that this season under new Head Coach, Mark Rudan.
“At the end of the day, football is all about results and we know what needs to be done.
“Since Mark (Rudan) has come in, there is a positive vibe all around the club in anticipation for the season ahead and we are more than confident of reaching the heights we have done in the past.”
The new adidas strip has a few stylistic updates, with the logo now sitting within the black stripes.
E Rere Te Keo, a Maori inscription, specifically recognises Wellington as home “the resounding call” of the taniwha Ngake, urging the team to strive to work even harder heading into this season.
Fans can show their support by purchasing the Wellington Phoenix range. The home jersey is available in adult and youth sizes.
The range can be purchased from the official Wellington Phoenix online store phoenixshop.co.nz, the club’s official retail merchandise partner footballcentral.co.nz, and at major sporting goods retailers, adidas stores, and online at www.adidas.co.nz
