The Wellington Phoenix are proud to announce that Multi Civil and Rail (MCR) will become its Principal Partner – as well as continue as the club’s Front of Shirt Partner – for the remainder of the 2020/21 A-League season.
This follows the Phoenix’s successful run with the Australian-based rail services company during Wollongong Appreciation Month, during which MCR appeared as Front of Shirt sponsor on the club’s red ‘Wollongong Strip’ for three home matches in March; the Phoenix winning two of those matches and playing some of its best football of the season.
Wellington Phoenix General Manager, David Dome, says that MCR is a vital relationship for the Club while it bases itself out of Wollongong in Australia.
“The Wellington Phoenix is a family club and one that is very much built on meaningful relationships in the community – and MCR have been extremely welcoming to us and has really helped us find our feet in Wollongong,” says Dome.
“MCR are a huge part of the community here in Wollongong and their contribution is extra-ordinary. To have them as our principal partner is a privilege and helps us enormously in our work with local businesses, community group and regional bodies.
“So we welcome MCR to the Phoenix family – it’s been a mutually beneficial relationship to date, and they’ve been great to work with; the focus is now on rewarding their backing of the club by making a strong run to the A-League Finals in June.”
Alin Finna, MCR Operations Manager Sydney, says that their partnership with the Phoenix continues a long-standing tradition of support for football in the region.
“MCR has been supporting the community at large for many years, including with the Wollongong Wolves and Illawarra Hawks, and we value our role and presence in the community,” says Finna.
“It’s something we’re very proud of as a long-standing supporter of football in general – and being part of the Phoenix is a big opportunity which not only helps the club be successful, but brings positive attention to this region and the game of football itself.”
Dome says that KPMG – the Club’s Principal Partner and Front of Shirt Partner for the first 14 matches of this season – has been extremely gracious in allowing the Phoenix to build a relationship with MCR in this regard.
“KPMG recognised that we needed to build key relationships in Wollongong this season, and they’ve stepped back to enable us to bring MCR on board as Front of Shirt – we’re extremely grateful to them for working with us on this.”
Wellington Phoenix will update its front of shirt on its home and away strips, while also playing in the red ‘Wollongong Strip’ where applicable for the remainder of the 2020/21 A-League season.
