Saturday 13 December, 2014 has just become a red letter date for Wellington Phoenix football and The Hobbit Trilogy movie fans.

In a partnership between two franchises with strong ties to Wellington, New Zealand, December 13 will see the Wellington Phoenix take the field in a special one-off jersey.

The jersey, specially designed with the Wellington Phoenix and the team behind The Hobbit Trilogy, commemorates the opening of The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies in cinemas December 11th. The custom, film-themed jersey will only be played in once to recognise the exclusive nature of the partnership.

The Phoenix will play in the one off The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies strip on Saturday 13 December, 2014 at Eden Park, Auckland. Kick off is 5.00pm.

Andrew Durante, Captain of the Wellington Phoenix and fan of The Hobbit Trilogy is eager to be involved with the historical occasion:   “I am excited that our Club can be part of the worldwide launch of such an iconic movie release. It’s pretty cool to be able to play in a strip that has been designed and that is totally unique.”

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome agrees:  “The Wellington Phoenix are New Zealand’s only professional football team. We are proud to fly that flag internationally and be associated with a movie that’s forged the way for New Zealand filmmakers on the world stage.”

Wellington Phoenix collaborated with Huawei to celebrate the film with a custom jersey.  Dome adds:  “We are appreciative that our major partner Huawei is supporting the Phoenix in this endeavour by making way on the front of the jersey”.

Huawei New Zealand Director of Public Affairs, Andrew Bowater, adds:

“Huawei is proud to support the Phoenix in a partnership that shows the innovation of New Zealand companies working together”.

The strip will be revealed at the game and supporters will get the exclusive opportunity to win merchandise and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies themed prizes. Tickets are available now from www.ticketmaster.co.nz
