The Wellington Phoenix academy have enjoyed a perfect start to the new season.
In round one of the Dettol Central League, the Phoenix men’s reserves triumphed 4-0 over Upper Hutt City at Fraser Park on Saturday.
After the scores were deadlocked at halftime, a second half blitz saw Anaru Cassidy, Jack Perniskie, Luke Mitchell, and Ryan Watson all get on the score sheet.
Their win was matched by the Phoenix U-18 women’s side, who beat Waterside Karori 4-0 in the opening round of the women’s Central League, also at Fraser Park on Saturday.
Mackenzie Bryant, Maisy McDonald, Isabella Temple, and Amelie McClintock scored the U-18s’ goals after a scoreless first half.
In the final match of the home triple-header, Riley Allison scored a hat-trick to lead the Phoenix U-18 men’s side to a 5-1 victory over Wainuiomata AFC in the Capital Premier League.
Luqman Ibrahim also found the back of the net twice in the first half.
This weekend, the men’s reserves and U-18s are visiting Island Bay United, while the U-18 women are travelling to Palmerston North United. The U-16 boys are also opening their season against Stop Out.
