Wellington Phoenix are extremely happy to confirm full-back, Louis Fenton, has penned terms on a new two-year contract until the end of the 2020/21 season.

The Tawa-born defender has enjoyed a stellar season under new Head Coach Mark Rudan, scoring twice in 18 appearances for his hometown club and receiving plaudits for his performances in the Hyundai A-League campaign thus far.

Fenton debuted for the Wellington Phoenix in October of 2012, where he scored a spectacular diving header to upset the debut of Italian superstar Alessandro Del Piero at Westpac Stadium, and begin his black and yellow career in perfect fashion.

Having recently surpassed his century of appearances for the club, Fenton is wanting to progress even further and notes that hard work and dedication has brought him to this stage of his career

‘‘I’m very happy to be staying at my hometown club.

‘‘I really feel that I proved myself in pre-season to earn a contract and I still aspire to be the hardest worker out there every day.

‘‘I’ve always been proud to represent this club and now I want to push on and dream bigger, by targeting finals and then trophies.

Fenton touched on the potential of the team, with the end of the season getting closer.

‘‘I feel we have lots of potential in this side and we have turned doubters into believers, so the sky is the limit and I’m looking forward to the future.’’

Wellington Phoenix Head Coach, Mark Rudan, has been impressed with Fenton’s season and feels he has plenty more to offer.

‘‘Fenton is still only a young footballer, and he’s still learning but this season he has been fantastic.

‘‘His positive mindset since day one has been second to none and he has carried that positivity through in his training, his attitude and his execution.

‘‘I couldn’t be happier for him and I believe he has still plenty more to come.’’

Fenton is in contention to start against the team whom he debuted against, Sydney FC, at Campbelltown Sports Stadium this Saturday.
