Now in his third season with the Phoenix, 19-year-old Cacace has emerged as the best left-back in both New Zealand and arguably the Hyundai A-League.

In the month of January, Cacace played all 360 minutes across the Phoenix’s four matches, picking up three wins from four games and scoring his first goal of the season against Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 14.

Cacace says that while he appreciates the award, his focus remains on the club’s success.

“It’s always great to win an award like this, but I’m happy just to contribute to the team – hopefully I can use this form heading into the final weeks and the latter stages of the season.”

Looking back on his performance in January, Cacace also gave credit to his coach and teammates.

“The coach set out a task to win as many points as we could in January, and I think we did that and achieved a good spot on the ladder – and hopefully we can keep climbing up that ladder and get a top three finish.”

Phoenix General Manager David Dome says that he believes the best is yet to come from Cacace.

“Congratulations from the club to Libby for his outstanding season to date – it’s a testament to his hard work, dedication and talent.

“We look forward to more stellar contributions from Cacace in the lead up to the Finals series, and we think the sky’s the limit for him as he continues to showcase his winning game.”
