It hasn’t been easy keeping goal for the Wellington Phoenix this season but Glen Moss was rewarded for some superb performances with the two major awards going his way at the club’s awards dinner on Tuesday night.
Moss was named Players’ Player of the Year – the one award all players aspire to – and then added the Huawei Player of the Year.
“It is always good to be recognised by your peers and then to get a second award was fantastic,” Moss said.
“It was a tough season for everyone at the club and I am already looking forward to next season with the talented players we have already attracted to the club.”
The Members Revera under-23 player of the year was Dylan Fox, while Blake Powell took home the Adidas Golden Boot,
Carlsberg fan of the year was Carey McDonald.
Two eight-year club veterans – Ben Sigmund and Manny Muscat – were fare welled with Sigmund retiring and Muscat joining Melbourne City to be closer to his family with a third child on the way.
Sigmund and Muscat, noted for giving 100 per cent every time they took the field, were given a deserved standing ovation to conclude an emotional night for all concerned.
