Tameka Yallop joined the Wellington Phoenix on a one year deal, with an option for a second season, in August while in camp with the Ninja A-League All Stars.

The goalscoring midfielder is an Australian football legend. Yallop is the ninth most capped Matilda in history, having played 136 senior internationals and represented Australia at four World Cups and three Olympic Games since making her debut in 2007.

She is also an icon of the A-League. Yallop has scored the second most goals and made the second most appearances in competition history and led her hometown club the Brisbane Roar women to their two championship titles.

Yallop started her senior career at the Roar in 2008 and was a key part of their championship-winning side in 2009, scoring in the semi-final and grand final.

She also found the back of the net in the grand final defeat to Sydney FC the following year before again scoring in the semi-final and the grand final in 2011 as Brisbane lifted their second title.

Yallop was the players’ player of the year in 2012 and won the Julie Dolan Medal as the player of the year in 2014.

In total she has played 179 matches for the Roar and found the back of the net 74 times for Brisbane, including 12 times during the 2024-25 season.

Yallop also has spent time at Boston Breakers, FFC Frankfurt, Iga FC Kunoichi, Mallbackens, Klepp, Melbourne City and West Ham from 2012 to 2022.

She made her international debut for the Matildas in 2007 and has scored 14 goals.

Tameka Yallop had an injury-disrupted season for the Brisbane Roar.

Yallop was limited to 11 appearances, of which only two were starts, but still scored two goals.

She made the difficult decision to leave the Roar in the off-season and sign with the Nix.

“I’m chasing that trophy and so is Wellington, so we’re aligned,” Yallop said.

“Getting the opportunity to work under Bev was a massive drawcard, not to mention the facilities at NZCIS. They’re second to none.

“It’s a high performance environment in Wellington and that’s something that I love being a part of.

“And the Phoenix have shown they’re dedicated to their women’s programme. That was a major pull for me too.

“The club have proven that they’ve consistently invested in the women’s game and are looking to continue that as well.”
