#4 SCOTT WOOTTON BIO – DOB 12/9/91

Scott Wootton joined the Phoenix in January 2022, after securing an early release from Morecambe in English football’s League One.

The centre back has played more than 200 league matches in England across the three divisions below the Premier League after starting his career at Manchester United.

Wootton played two Champions League matches and two League Cup games in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season at Old Trafford.

After an injury delayed his debut for the club, Wootton started the Phoenix’s remaining 19 matches.

The team recorded its first clean sheet of the A-League season in his first match, and he scored in his third to help extend the club’s unbeaten run to five games.

After just seven appearances the Phoenix signed Wootton to a new three-year contract, tying him to the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.

He also found the back of the net in a memorable 4-1 win over eventual A-League champions Western United.

> 2022-23 season

Scott Wootton started the Phoenix’s first 14 matches of the season, including the team’s run to the quarter finals of the Australia Cup.

A calf strain side-lined the centre back for five weeks in January and February before he returned off the bench at the end of the 3-0 win over Western United in Tasmania.

He started all but one of the team’s remaining nine matches, including the elimination final defeat to Adelaide United.

Wootton played the full 90 minutes in each of the 23 matches he started.
