Hope Breslin is the Phoenix women’s first visa signing, joining the club for the 2023-24 A-League.

The attacking midfielder was Angel City FC’s first-ever draft pick in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and played for the Los Angeles club last year, before moving to NWSL rivals the Houston Dash.

Breslin is from Massapequa, New York and helped Massapequa High School win three state championship titles.

She attended the University of Illinois and was a key member of the Fighting Illini’s women’s team from 2017 to 2021.

Hope Breslin was a teammate of Football Ferns co-captain Ali Riley at Angel City after being selected with the 28th overall pick in the 2022 NWSL college draft.

Breslin made eight appearances for Angel City last year but was released at the end of the season.

She joined Houston Dash in 2023 on a national team replacement contract during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia before getting the call from the Phoenix.

Breslin has never played outside of the U.S.A. but has “always been interested in coming to the A-League”.

“I was excited to give playing overseas a try and grow my game a bit, so when the Wellington Phoenix expressed interest, I felt like I had to jump on the opportunity,” Breslin said.

“I had a zoom call with Paul Temple and I felt like it went really well.

“I love his vision for the team and what they’re trying to grow and I feel like I can fit in and be a part of that within the club.”
