Eamonn McCarron
40 Goalkeeper
Eamonn McCarron made his Phoenix debut at just 17 years old after progressing through the academy.
McCarron only started playing football at age 12 having previously played rugby, and spent time at Waterside Karori, Western Suburbs, and North Wellington before joining the Phoenix academy system in 2022.
He is a proud Wellingtonian, and while he dreamed of playing for the Lions or Hurricanes while growing up, he has no regrets about switching to a round ball.
The 1.98m ‘keeper earned his first pro contract in May 2026, signing on a three-year deal and becoming the first Nix player to commit through to the 2028-29 season.

Eamonn McCarron made his first competitive appearance for the Phoenix in the Australia Cup, keeping a clean sheet against Nunawading City in a 1-0 win.
Having begun the season as an uncontracted fourth ‘keeper, he was forced into action through injuries and made his A-League debut off the bench against Central Coast Mariners in December.
Despite a 5-1 defeat, he retained his place and went on to keep the club’s first two clean sheets of the season in road wins against Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC.
He signed a three-year contract in May.
“It’s really good to have had A-League starts at a young age and now it’s about trying to get back there and then pushing on to a higher level,” he said.
