The Wellington Phoenix’s second Liberty A-League home game of 2024 has been pushed back to March to avoid a clash with the Football Ferns’ Olympic qualifiers.
The Phoenix women’s round 16 match against Adelaide United was originally scheduled to be played at Porirua Park on Sunday, February 11.
The club asked Australian Professional Leagues (APL) to move the fixture as it fell on the first weekend of the Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament, which will be held in Samoa from February 7-19.
The Nix will now play Adelaide on Wednesday, March 20 at 5pm, in between the team’s round 20 match against Sydney FC, also at Porirua Park, and their round 21 fixture at Canberra United.
“I’d like to thank APL and Adelaide United for accommodating our request,” Phoenix head coach Paul Temple said.
“Half of our squad could potentially be called up to represent the Football Ferns so we simply had to move the match.
“It’s going to make March incredibly busy but we will prepare accordingly.”
The club is also in discussions with APL to see if the women’s round 17 fixture at Western United can be moved.
The match is currently scheduled to be played on Sunday, February 18 at the business end of the Olympic qualifying tournament.
Tickets already purchased for the original February 11 date remain valid.
