Winston Reid turned down the opportunity to play for the All Whites on home soil later this month.
But the West Ham defender is keen for a homecoming in club colours when the Hammers visit New Zealand in July.
Reid made himself unavailable for the friendly against South Africa in Auckland on May 30, choosing to rest following the conclusion of the English Premier League on Monday.
But the pre-season club games against the Wellington Phoenix in Auckland (July 23) and Sydney FC in Wellington (July 26) are a different story.
The North Shore-born Reid is looking forward to having some company on his flight home for once.
