Wellington, New Zealand’s capital of football, is set for football feast this weekend with Phoenix proud to announce special commemorations to mark both Remembrance Round and also the All Whites’ World Cup playoff against Peru.
In a symbolic act of solidarity with the national team, Phoenix will wear their alternative white kit on Sunday 12 November for their Hyundai A-League Round 6 clash with Perth Glory as part of New Zealand Football and fans’ calls for a WhiteOut with a spot at Russia 2018 on the line at Westpac Stadium on Saturday.
Sunday’s match, at the family friendly time of 4.30pm, also sees Wellington Phoenix joining other Hyundai A-League clubs in marking FFA’s Remembrance Round – marking the 99th anniversary of the end of World War I, where so many Australians and New Zealanders fought side by side.
To commemorate this, there will be a solemn remembrance ceremony including national anthems and a wreath laying ahead of kick-off, and Phoenix are inviting all New Zealand Defence Force personnel to join us for FREE entry to Sunday’s game with the presentation of their military ID at ticket booths at Westpac Stadium on matchday.
With a sold-out crowd of up to 38,000 expected at Westpac Stadium on Saturday to watch New Zealand take on Peru, Phoenix have also offered All Whites ticketholders a 50% discount for Sunday’s match – inviting those from out of town to stay a little longer and for Wellington region residents to make this a very special weekend of football.
At half time during the Perth Glory match, thanks to our premium partner Singapore Airlines, Phoenix will be giving away four economy class return ticket to Canberra plus accommodation – with four potential winners invited to compete in a ‘closest to the pin’ competition.
