Wellington Phoenix, Huawei & Westpac Stadium Help Raise Money For Christchurch Victims

On Friday 15 March, Christchurch witnessed a horrific terrorist attack.

50 people, including mothers, fathers, grandparents, sons & daughters were cruelly taken from us in an act of pure evil.

One of our own from our football community – NZ Futsal Goalkeeper Atta Elayyan – was taken from us in this attack.

He was a son, a husband and a father.

In a tribute to Atta’s memory and the 49 other victims, Wellington Phoenix partnered with Huawei NZ & Westpac Stadium to raise money for the survivors of this tragedy.

Collections were held throughout the Hyundai A-League Round 22 fixture on Sunday 17 March at Westpac Stadium, which raised a total of $10,770.60.

Westpac Stadium donated $2000 to kick start the donations, while Wellington Phoenix and their Principal partner, Huawei, both pledged to match the cash donations dollar for dollar.

In total, $34,311.80 was raised for Victim Support New Zealand, who are on the ground in Christchurch assisting those most in need.

If you were unable to make the game, you can still donate online on the Give A Little page here.

A Give A Little page for Atta Elayyan’s family is here.

We want to thank all of those who donated money and to our partners Huawei and Westpac Stadium who generously contributed.

We are all thinking of those who have been lost and those who are left that mourn their passing.

We stand together as a country.

Kia Kaha.
