Wellington Phoenix have confirmed two pre-season fixtures within the Wellington region as they continue preparations for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.
The first pre-season trip will take the team to David Farrington Park as they take on a Miramar Rangers and Wellington Olympic Select side on Sunday 25 August. The fixture will be a free entry event, kicking off at 2.30 pm with both Central League sides joining forces to take on the Phoenix.
The side will then take their pre-season to Kapiti Coast for the annual game against the Central League Select. Taking place at Weka Park on Sunday 1 September, Kapiti Coast United will again host the battle between Wellington Phoenix and the best players within the Central League.
A gold coin donation entry fee will go towards Kapiti Coast United raising money for two fantastic causes: proceeds to be split between Kapiti Youth Support and Kapiti Special Olympics Football Team.
Capital Football Operations Manager, Lisa Jones says the matches provide an exciting day out for fans of all teams involved and offers a competitive test for the professional side.
‘‘We thoroughly enjoy providing a stern test for the Wellington Phoenix.’’ Jones said.
‘‘The pre-season fixtures always draw good crowds and offers fans an opportunity to see their heroes as well as watching a very competitive game.’’
Wellington Phoenix Head Coach, Ufuk Talay, is relishing the challenges that lie ahead and is looking forward to meeting the wider Wellington Phoenix family.
‘‘We’re very much enjoying playing in front of the fans in the wider Wellington region and these opportunities give us the chance to form those connections,’’ Talay said.
‘’In terms of the football, it’s still early days and our focus has been on bringing on a very young team, but I’m very happy with the progression of the squad and we will continue to get better heading towards the start of the season.’’
