Boyd was part of the first intake into the Phoenix’s Football School of Excellence two years ago and did enough to earn his first professional contract – a three-year deal – at the age of just 17.

He was a member of the New Zealand side which competed at the FIFA under-20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 and made his full All Whites debut earlier this year.
