The Wellington Phoenix are pleased to announce tickets are now on sale for the club’s first matches in Aotearoa in more than 300 days.
The Phoenix men will play the Central Coast Mariners at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Sunday, April 17 before heading to Auckland to take on Western Sydney Wanderers at Eden Park the following Sunday (April 24).
Both games will kick-off at the family friendly time of 3:05pm NZT (1:05pm AEST).
The Phoenix haven’t played in New Zealand since May 30 last year, when more than 22 thousand fans turned out to see the team play Perth Glory at Eden Park.
It came a week after the team’s match against Western United at Sky Stadium, where 24,105 supporters cheered the team on to a 3-0 win.
Phoenix general manager David Dome wants to see a repeat of those crowds this April.
“They were two of the most memorable matches in the club’s history and highlights of the New Zealand sporting calendar in 2021,” Dome said.
“Fans have been starved of top level sport and this is their opportunity to come out and support a team chasing a place in the A-League finals.
“The club has been working hard to bring games back home in the midst of some large challenges enforced by a season played across the Tasman.
“The players can’t wait to get back to New Zealand having been based in Sydney since the start of November and this is the chance for Kiwi sports fans to recognise their sacrifice and welcome them home with two large crowds in Wellington and Auckland.”
For those who may have Covid concerns, there are socially-distanced zones at both Sky Stadium and Eden Park, designated bays that will be restricted to 25 per cent capacity.
“We hope this means those who are immunocompromised or wary about being around crowds during the Covid pandemic can still attend our matches,” Dome said.
