It’s Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu – National Volunteer Week – and we are celebrating our incredible volunteers, who we believe are the best in New Zealand sport.
The Wellington Phoenix simply wouldn’t be able to function without a special group of people, who dedicate hours of their own time to the club.
Our events manager Kya Stewart relies on a team of volies to fulfil a range of tasks and make matchdays a reality. Sometimes this involves the Phoenix hosting games for the men and women at different venues on the same weekend.
Despite the many challenges and long hours our matchday volunteers always have smiles on their faces and are great representatives of the club.
Jo Todd was named the Wellington Phoenix volunteer of the year at the club’s awards night in April for her fantastic operation support, especially for the women’s matches at Porirua Park.
The Phoenix academy also depends on a small group of volies to help the staff at Fraser Park with its eight age-group teams.
Justin Raffan and Steven Janes dedicate much of their weekends to managing teams, while Christoph Zintl and Michaela Jameson are treasured as chaplains/tiaparani and Dom Fransen has recently started helping out with video content.
Christoph Zintl was named the Wellington Phoenix academy volunteer of the year in April for the incredible support he gives the next generation of footballers coming through Fraser Park.
And last but not least the club is blessed to have two wonderful photographers who give their time for free to capture all of the magical moments our teams create.
Cam McIntosh is the club’s A-League photographer and snaps images of men’s and women’s first team matches as well as training sessions for both sides.
Ryan Imray is also a regular on the sideline at our A-League games and has come onboard as our academy photographer this year, taking photos of all eight age-group teams at Fraser Park.
