Wellington Phoenix hosted its annual Community Day on Sunday 16 September at Waitangi Park and the weather held up to provide a beautiful day packed full of fun.

With a wealth of activities to keep families and children entertained, it was also a great opportunity for them to meet Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Wellington Phoenix squad.

The team were on fine form as they signed posters and enjoyed spending time with families on the fun activities.

The stage showcased live entertainment before the squad were displayed for everyone to meet. Steven Taylor, David Williams and Tom Doyle were involved in a Q&A, giving fans an insight into the lives of their team.

Other than the draw of the team’s presence, there were plenty of other attractions at Community day.

Bouncy castles, Hungerball, food stalls, giveaways, live entertainment and more, there was something for everyone!

Club Captain Andrew Durante, brought his family down to the occasion before thanking the packed out Waitangi Park crowd.

“We loved meeting all the families and playing with the kids on the activities.

“We feel we have a very competitive team that can do something really special and with the continued support the community shows us, I believe we are in for a special season.

“I have brought my family down here every year and every year it gets better and better.”

Wellington Phoenix General Manager, David Dome, believes this annual event is something that will remain a key date in the Wellington calendar.

“It was fantastic to see so many young kids and young adults supporting the club at the event.

“It’s really important for us as a club to give something back to the community that support us so well during the season by coming to the games and buying season tickets.

Last year Wellington Phoenix carried out 800 hours of Community work and this year, the target will be over 1000 hours.

“These events are a way to engage with our community and give them that interaction with the players.

“The children can meet their idols and we enjoy meeting all the families and children.”
