Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome says the search for the Phoenix’s new Head Coach has started positively with to date close to 200 applications received for the role.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome says the search for the Phoenix-s new Head Coach has started positively with to date close to two hundred applications received for the role.

With applications arriving daily from all over the world and from as far afield as North America and Europe, Dome is encouraged by the prospects.

“We have received interest from some very high calibre applicants, including some who have coached at the highest levels in Europe” Dome said.

“The fact that the Wellington Phoenix are New Zealand-s only professional football team, along with our participation in the Australian Hyundai A-League, offers candidates a point of difference in their careers.

“Couple that with the appeal of the lifestyle that living in New Zealand in general and Wellington in particular offers, then this role is being seen as a unique and very attractive opportunity” Dome adds.

Applications for the role close on Friday 22 March with a shortlist to be established and interviews taking place during April.

“We are keen to complete the process in the next six weeks or so we can move on, but we are also very focussed on finding the right person for the job and will take the time necessary to do this.

“While we are getting some well-known names come through, the most important thing for us is to get a Head Coach who understands and will execute the Club-s vision.

“We are taking external independent advice from experts outside of the Club to ensure that we get the very best person we can for the job” Dome explains.

The Wellington Phoenix take on the Melbourne Victory in their final home game of the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season on Sunday 31 March, 4.30pm at Westpac Stadium. Click here to get your tickets now!
