Phoenix reveal inaugural Pride shirt

The Wellington Phoenix have unveiled a unique playing shirt for the women’s final round Liberty A-League match against Western Sydney Wanderers.

In consultation with Phoenix players, Paladin Sports and Charmaine Love have designed the club’s inaugural Pride shirt.

The match is part of the A-Leagues’ wider Pride Celebrations, which highlight diversity and inclusivity in football.

The Phoenix matchday squad will wear the Pride shirts at Porirua Park on Saturday, with all 16 playing shirts to be auctioned off next week.

The proceeds will go to InsideOUT, a charity that provides education, resources, consultation and support for anything concerning rainbow communities.

“This game is huge,” Wellington Phoenix captain Annalie Longo said. “We’re all very supportive of making our sport as accessible as possible.

“It’s great to be able to celebrate the Pride round and show football is for all. It’s what we believe in.”

The Phoenix players are all excited about the chance to wear the Pride shirt.

“We’ve got a limited-edition kit for the round, which is really cool,” forward Emma Main said.

“The women’s team have never had one and we can’t wait to wear it and show it off this weekend.”

Fans will also be able to purchase their own replica Pride shirt through the club’s online store: wellingtonphoenixhub.com.
