This Sunday-s game against Melbourne Heart is shaping up to be one of the biggest so far for the Phoenix on a couple of levels.

Extremely strong ticket sales suggest one of the Phoenix-s best ever crowds for a regular A-League season game. Couple this with two historic away wins on the road in Australia and a surge up the table into third place, then if results go their way this weekend it could see the Phoenix in second place on Sunday night.

Scorer of the winning goal against the Gold Coast, Tim Brown says the away form has obviously been crucial to the Phoenix-s success this season.

“I think in the Phoenix-s history in my opinion we-ve probably put the best away performances across the season than ever before and maybe the results haven-t quite gone our way. There-s been some tight games and now we-re getting that little bit of luck that turns a tight draw into a tight win. It-s hard work and it-s a tight league but I think we-re making progress.”

This sets up the home games as even more important to keep the momentum going.

“It-s a huge game on Sunday. You say that every week but this one-s a big game. The stakes keep getting raised and that-s a symptom of how well we may be doing at the moment and it-s a big opportunity against the Melbourne Heart on Sunday.”

Striker Paul Ifill agrees with Brown-s sentiments.

“A lot has been said and written about our poor away form so we tried to put that to bed and hopefully we have”.

“Important game this weekend. Hope for a big crowd. And two away wins like that will bring the crowds back I think.”

Pre-sales for this game are the highest for any Wellington Phoenix home game outside the finals series.
