Phoenix Keen to Bring EPL Club to New Zealand

Phoenix Keen to Bring EPL Club to New Zealand

Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome would love to bring an English Premier League club to New Zealand next pre-season but says contrary to reports no fixtures have been confirmed.

Dome, who is currently in Australia, said tonight that the club was always on the lookout for quality international opposition.

“I wouldn-t be doing my job if I wasn-t exploring the possibility of bringing quality teams to New Zealand,” Dome said.

“In the past we have brought out LA Galaxy and Boca Juniors, and we have noted the success Australia had last year in getting Premier League teams to play in Sydney and Melbourne.

“Over the past 18 months we have had some options presented to us and there have been on-going discussions with various parties, but it is a big step from discussions to confirmation.

“If a suitable opportunity presents itself, and it works financially as well as from a team perspective we will consider it.”
