Phoenix-Boca Juniors tickets on sale from Monday

TICKETS for Wellington Phoenix FC’s blockbuster clash with Boca Juniors in Wellington next month go on sale from Monday.

TICKETS for Wellington Phoenix FC-s blockbuster clash with Boca Juniors in Wellington next month go on sale from Monday.

The Phoenix take on the Argentine powerhouse at Westpac Stadium on July 23 in a gala-event match that promises to be one of year-s most exciting sporting events.

Current (season 2010/11) Phoenix members will have the first opportunity to snap up members-only discounted tickets and secure seat of their choice for the big match, with an exclusive two-day pre-purchase period from 9am on Monday, June 21, till midnight June 23.

Tickets then go on sale to the general public.

Tickets have been priced reasonably to ensure a bumper crowd at Westpac Stadium for a night of top-flight football and South American fun.

Standard gold-level tickets (on halfway at Westpac Stadium) cost $69 for an adult and $32 for children. A gold family pass (two adults, two children) is available for $180. Silver ticket prices are $48 for adults, $22 for children and $125 for families. As well as the opportunity to purchase tickets first, Wellington Phoenix 2010/11 season members will receive a 10% discount on standard ticket prices.

Wellington Phoenix interim chief executive Nathan Greenham said the event was shaping up to be something special.

“Boca Juniors is one of the world-s best known and most successful clubs. This is the club that has produced some of the world-s greatest players – Carlos Tevez, Juan Roman Riquelme, Martin Palermo and, of course, possibly the greatest of all – Diego Maradona.

“Boca will also be bringing their first team, so fans that are at Westpac Stadium on July 23 will see the very best players this superclub has to offer against our own Wellington Phoenix.”

The hosts will also field their strongest team, with the club-s five All Whites – and coach Ricki Herbert – back on deck after the World Cup in South Africa.

“It-s fantastic to think we-ll have two full-strength teams in action,” said Greenham. “Boca will be out to light the game up with some South American style and we-ll be going out to turn things on with a good win before the start of the new competition season. What a way for the fans to welcome back our World Cup heroes – a massive crowd for what-s going to be a thrilling event.”

The club-s record for a gala-event match at Westpac Stadium is 31,853, set in 2007 when the Phoenix hosted David Beckham-s LA Galaxy.

“It would be terrific to break that record,” said Greenham. “Given that tickets for this match are priced so well and with a club of the calibre of Boca Juniors on display there are plenty of reasons to think we could give the Galaxy record a good nudge.”
