The Wellington Phoenix reserves will aim to bounce back in the National League this weekend after opening day defeats for both men’s and women’s sides.
The women’s reserves will kick off the second round of fixtures, hosting Waterside Karori at Fraser Park in a 7pm match on Friday, October 4.
Karori will be high on confidence after holding reigning National League and Kate Sheppard Cup champions Auckland United to a 1-1 draw last week, but there is reason for the Nix to be optimistic.
A Kate Sheppard Cup quarter-final matchup between these teams saw the Phoenix storm out to a 3-0 lead before holding off a late Karori comeback to win 3-2.
However, the Phoenix will be without a number of players from that game due to international call ups to the U17 Women’s World Cup and graduations to the first team.
Meanwhile, the men’s reserves have their first away trip of the season, travelling to Christchurch to take on Cashmere Technical at English Park.
The game will kick off at 2pm on Sunday, October 6.
Cashmere Technical sit top of the table after a statement opening win, beating Western Suburbs 4-0.
The youth National League also continues this weekend.
In the girls’ youth National League, the U-17 Nix host Capital Football at Fraser Park at 3pm on Sunday, October 6.
The U-17 boys’ team has a bye for this round, but will return next week.
All senior National League games will be available to stream live and free on FIFA+.
