The Wellington Phoenix Reserves opened up their ISPS Handa Premiership campaign this afternoon at Westpac Stadium in a great afternoon for Football.

The stage was set for a great afternoon of Football in the capital with local rivals Team Wellington making the short trip across the city to their local rivals, the Wellington Phoenix Reserves.

The game began with the Phoenix Reserves starting off the better of the two sides in the early stages of the match with Reuben Way striking the crossbar with a follow up effort after Michal Kopzcyński had his effort saved by Basalaj.

The Phoenix Reserves continued to put pressure on Team Wellington and in the 21st minute Calvin Harris Guided the ball beautifully into the top left corner giving the Phoenix Reserves the lead they deserved.

Team Wellington got themselves back into the game with some quick passing play which lead to Barcia comfortably slotting away his effort to level the match at 1-1 in the 29th minute.

In the 34th minute Callan Elliot showed his class by skipping past the Team Wellington midfield and bending a beautiful ball past the Team Wellington defence over to Ben Waine who unfortunately lost control and the attack died.

Team Wellington took the lead in the 40th minute with a brilliant ball being played in by Henry Cameron finding Andy Bevin at the near post to head it past the Phoenix Reserves goalkeeper Zac Jones who although getting a hand to the effort was unable to keep it out taking Team Wellington into the break at 2-1 up.

There was controversy in the 56th minute with Reuben Way being deemed to have fouled Hamish Watson resulting in Team Wellington being awarded a penalty. It was then comfortably slotted away by Team Wellington striker Hamish Watson making the score 3-1 to Team Wellington.

Substitute Kumsuz Created a chance on goal with some brilliant footwork but he couldn’t beat Scott Basalaj.

Henry Cameron found himself unmarked at the back post and converted brilliantly driving his shot into the bottom right corner to continue Team Wellington’s second half dominance and make the final score 4-1 to Team Wellington.

It was a great day for a fantastic ISPS Handa Premiership Football game in the capital.

The Phoenix wish to thank all of those who came to Westpac Stadium today to support the Wellington Phoenix Reserves in the WelClasico Derby.
