On 24-25 January, 45 aspiring footballers descended on Memorial Park, Petone to take part in Wellington Phoenix’s holiday programme.
The kids participating came from many different parts of Wellington, with 17 local clubs represented.
On the first day, the kids did a variety of skills-based activities, led by Wellington Phoenix Academy players, who gave them ]tips on how to improve their touch and accuracy.
Wellington Phoenix’s mascot, Nixie, came along in the afternoon to watch the kids practice and join in with a penalty shootout competition.
On the second day, the ever-popular World Cup was held, with 8 teams competing for glory. There was some superb football, teamwork, and sportsmanship on display throughout the tournament, but ultimately it was Brazil who walked away with the honours.
The weather was glorious across both days, providing an excellent opportunity for kids be active and practice their football.
All children who participated in the programme received a new football, t-shirt, drink bottle and tickets to a Phoenix match.
We love hosting our Wellington Phoenix Holiday Camps so we’re looking forward to the next one. Keep your eyes peeled!
