Go Media Stadium to host Phoenix double-header

The Wellington Phoenix men and women are heading to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland next month for an historic A-Leagues double-header at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart.

On Saturday 25 November, Go Media Stadium will host the Macca’s Festival of Football, featuring both Phoenix teams.

It is the first time the club has staged a double-header outside of Wellington.

The men will open the feast of football at 4:30pm, playing a mouth-watering tie against three-time premiers Melbourne City.

The women will then make their debut appearance at Go Media Stadium when they take on Perth Glory in the distance derby, with kick-off at 7:15pm.

A family can see both of New Zealand’s professional football teams play for less than $50, with tickets on sale this week.

Phoenix general manager David Dome is looking forward to seeing both the men and women play at Go Media Stadium.

“It’s a big undertaking to stage two-A-League matches at one venue but the Auckland Stadiums team are up to the challenge,” Dome said.

“Go Media Stadium has a great track record of hosting major events, including a Warriors’ NRL finals match and an All Blacks test in recent months, and it’s a great venue for our supporters, who will be able to get closer to the action than ever before.

“The stadium is really tailor-made for football and both Wellington Phoenix teams are looking forward to playing on what is always a great surface.

“It’s fantastic that Auckland football fans will get to see the Phoenix men and women in action on the same day.”

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s Director Auckland Stadiums, James Parkinson is thrilled to see football back at Go Media Stadium.

“We are excited to be welcoming Wellington Phoenix back to Go Media Stadium Mt Smart and, in particular, to be hosting the women’s team at the stadium for the first time.

“The excellent relationship we have with Wellington Phoenix has enabled us to deliver more world-class sport, bringing football back to Go Media Stadium.

“This historic double-header is another example of how Go Media Stadium can transform itself and offer Aucklanders and visitors something special every time.

“We have worked with our naming rights partner Go Media to create an event with family-friendly pricing, where the whole family can watch both games from just $48.”

Go Media Managing Director Mike Gray is a huge supporter of the game and cannot wait for the event.

“Auckland came alive during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ and as a long-term sponsor of the Wellington Phoenix and NZ Football, we’re delighted to be continuing that momentum by hosting this double-header at Go Media Stadium.”

The November 25 double-header will be the Wellington Phoenix’s second visit to Go Media Stadium. The Phoenix men drew 2-2 with Western Sydney Wanderers at the Penrose venue the week before Christmas in 2016.

The men have a proud record in Auckland. They have only been beaten once in 16 matches in Tāmaki Makaurau.

It will be the second time the Phoenix women have played in Auckland. They were narrowly beaten 1-0 by eventual champions Sydney FC at North Harbour Stadium in February.

Tickets for the November 25 double-header are available for Wellington Phoenix and New Zealand Football members from today (October 18).

Phoenix members have been sent email access to an exclusive pre-sale discount code. Non-members can sign up for early ticket access here.

General sale begins on Friday October 20.
