A handful of Wellington Phoenix players have been called up to the Football Ferns for their first home matches since the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Michaela Foster, Kate Taylor, Mackenzie Barry, Macey Fraser and Brianna Edwards have been named in the 24-strong national squad for next month’s internationals against Thailand in Christchurch.
All five represented New Zealand at last month’s OFC Olympic qualifying tournament in Samoa.
Foster was part of the Ferns squad at last year’s World Cup, while fellow 15-cap defender Taylor was a training partner for the tournament.
Barry has now been capped 14 times by New Zealand, while Fraser (3 caps) and Edwards (1 cap) both made their senior debuts in Samoa.
The Football Ferns’ first match against Thailand is at 3pm on Saturday, April 6, with the second fixture at 7pm on Tuesday, April 9.
Both games will be played at Apollo Projects Stadium in Christchurch.
