Familiar Australia Cup foe for the Nix

Melbourne City again stand in the way of the Wellington Phoenix progressing in the Australia Cup.

The Phoenix have drawn City for the third straight season, with the A-League sides the last two teams picked to contest the round of 16 this year.

The Nix memorably beat City on penalties in the quarter-finals of the 2021 Cup and prevailed 2-1 in the round of 16 last year.

Wellington secured their place in the last 16 by overcoming Queensland National Premier Leagues (NPL) side Peninsula Power late in extra time at the start of the month, while Melbourne City scored a stoppage time winner to beat Victoria NPL side Oakleigh Cannons on Sunday.

The date and venue for the round of 16 match have yet to be confirmed, but there are four scheduled matchdays for the next round, from Saturday, August 26 to Wednesday, August 30.
