David Williams has won the Professional Footballers Australia Player of the Month Award for March – an award nominated by a committee comprised of former players and leading figures in the Australian football media. The nominees are voted on by PFA members from both competitions.

The Australian-born attacker has enjoyed a free-scoring season, with 11 goals in 23 appearances, only four off Hyundai A-League top scorer and Wellington Phoenix teammate, Roy Krishna

Williams has shown his quality throughout the campaign and the Phoenix regular looks to continue his scoring spree as Wellington target a home playoff final.

The 31-year old has impressed with his goal-scoring abilities, with world-class strikes against the likes of Brisbane Roar, Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory helping him pick up two Hyundai A-League goal of the month awards.

In March, Williams scored five goals, including a fantastic hat trick against Newcastle Jets. His third a particularly spectacular curler from outside the box.

The clinical attacker is enjoying his recent performances but believes he and the team can still improve as they drive towards a potential Hyundai A-League home playoff final at Westpac Stadium.

“It’s always nice to perform on the level I have since returning to the Hyundai A-League but there’s still much more to do and my focus is purely on attaining that home playoff final.

“To score goals, you need to have a good team around you and I’m lucky to be involved in such a cohesive team that works hard for each other.

“This award is for the team and hopefully we can add to it later on in the season as we look to reach the Grand Final.”

David Williams will look to add to his impressive goal scoring achievements this Friday as Wellington Phoenix take on Brisbane Roar away from home, this Friday 12 April.
