Date set for Porirua Park return

The Wellington Phoenix women will return to their Porirua Park fortress in November.

Ahead of the full Ninja A-League draw being released tomorrow (Friday, August 21), the Phoenix can reveal the women’s matchweek five fixture against Sydney FC will be played at Porirua Park on Sunday, November 15.

It’ll be their first match at the ground since the unforgettable semi-final second leg against Brisbane Roar in May, with the venue unavailable for the first month of the new A-League season.

The Nix recorded the club’s biggest win in the corresponding fixture last season, beating Sydney FC 7-0.

Phoenix head coach Bev Priestman says they can’t wait to return to Porirua Park.

“We’re super excited to play at the place that holds special memories for a lot of the squad,” Priestman said.

“The crowd at Porirua Park that day in May got us through to the club’s maiden grand final and we’ll never forget it.

“And Sydney will be a great test for us as they’re going to be returning to Porirua with a point to prove.”

As revealed exclusively on the A-Leagues app this morning, the Wellington Phoenix will open the new season against Melbourne City in a grand final rematch at Hnry Stadium on Sunday, October 18.

The remaining 18 matches of the Phoenix women’s season will be unveiled at 10am tomorrow.

Club memberships are available now, with tickets on sale next month.
