Concert forces Phoenix venue switch

THE scheduling of a Bon Jovi concert in Wellington in December has forced Wellington Phoenix FC to alter its Hyundai A-League 2010/11 fixture schedule.

The American rockers will play at Westpac Stadium on December 4 – the day before the Phoenix were set to host Adelaide United at their Wellington fortress. With the packdown of the group-s stage show likely to take several days following the concert, the Phoenix have had to move the clash with Adelaide.

As a result, the Phoenix will now take on the Reds at AMI Stadium in Christchurch on Sunday, December 5. The match originally scheduled in Christchurch on December 18 against the Newcastle Jets will now be played at Westpac Stadium.

“Essentially it-s a straight swap of the two scheduled fixtures between the two venues,” said Phoenix interim chief executive Nathan Greenham.

“We were mindful of ensuring the club-s members retained their right to 14 games at Westpac Stadium so we ruled out any thought of taking another match out of the city. We understand that this could cause inconvenience for some members but it was the most supporter-friendly solution to the problem.”
