The Wellington Phoenix have a final addition to their squad for their maiden playoffs, with midfielder Mikaela Bangalan signing a youth development agreement.
Bangalan, 18, only joined the Phoenix academy this year but has quickly impressed head coach Bev Priestman to earn a shot with the first team.
She was part of the New Zealand squad at the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year and has previously represented Fencibles United and Bucklands Beach, where she played with Pia Vlok.
“I’m delighted to offer another young player, one of our reserves, the opportunity to play in the A-League Women,” Priestman said.
“Whenever Mickey has entered our environment, she’s really thrived. I think that’s a sign of a talented player, when they grow in the environment and rise to the occasion.
“As an overall club philosophy, that’s why we have the women’s reserves and the academy, to give opportunities to players to come in and then see how they cope with that environment.
“She’s really impressed, not only to end this season but I also think next season she’s a great addition to the squad.”
Bangalan has been included in the travelling squad for Sunday’s Ninja A-League semi-final first leg against Brisbane Roar, where she could make her professional debut.
