The match started off with both sides having good spells of possession.

In the 13th minute Auckland City’s Javier Iglesias found a whole in the Weenix defence after a good ball was played through but the City striker was unable to find the back of the net with Oliver Sail doing well to avert the danger and clear the ball.

In the 21st minute Weenix fullback Louis Fenton made a driving run through the heart of the Auckland defence, then playing it wide for the ball to be then played to Singh who had his effort blocked and cleared.

The game was tightly contested in the starting quarter although soon after, the Auckland City winger Jordan Vale found space at the back post and tucked it away to take the lead.

The remainder of the first half finished just as it started, with both sides having good spells of possession and both having a few chances on goal but neither unable to register a finish.

The second half started off in good fashion for the visiting side with the Weenix defence failing to clear the loose ball and allowing the Auckland attack to pounce on it and score doubling their lead only a minute into the second half.

The next 10 minutes of play showed both city’s quality in holding possession and defensive qualities of the Weenix defence with City having the majority of the ball but were unable to break down what was a resilient Weenix backline.

On 59 minutes Auckland yet again showed their attacking brilliance by combining well in the final third to create space In the Weenix box and slotting away the chance comfortably to all but win the match for the visitors making the score 3-0.

The final quarter of the match allowed the Weenix attack to show their quality, creating some good chances, coming close to bagging themselves what would’ve been a well-deserved goal but only a consolation from their good efforts.

The scoreline was in favour of the visitors and was deserved for the reigning champions considering their efforts but doesn’t reflect the attacking prowess and defensive quality that the Weenix showed.
