The Wellington Phoenix men’s schedule has been confirmed for the club’s much-anticipated 20th season.
The Phoenix men will play at least 12 matches at their Hnry Stadium home, from the season opener on October 18 through to ANZAC weekend in April.
A venue for the men’s annual Waitangi Day fixture has yet to be confirmed as Hnry Stadium is potentially unavailable.
As was revealed yesterday, the Nix will play host to Melbourne Victory on Sunday, October 18 in matchweek one, in what’s a rematch of the club’s inaugural fixture from 2007.
The men have a further three Sunday afternoon matches at Hnry Stadium, all of which come in the next five rounds.
Seven of their remaining home games are Saturday evening fixtures, starting with the New Zealand derby against reigning champions Auckland FC on December 19, with their ‘grassroots’ game against Sydney FC an afternoon kick-off on Saturday, March 6.
The Phoenix have one Friday night match at Hnry Stadium against Brisbane Roar on April 9. It’ll be the first of three straight games at the Ring of Fire to close out the home season.
New men’s head coach Chris Greenacre is determined to make Hnry Stadium a fortress again.
“When I joined the Phoenix in 2009 it was a horrible place for visiting teams to come and play,” Greenacre said.
“We’d beaten some teams before they arrived at the ground. They’d have a bit of a bouncy arrival into Wellington because of the wind, and we always came out with a hiss and a roar and put teams on the back foot.
“We really want to make our home fixtures count. For me it’s the best stadium in the league, it’s the best pitch and it’s an incredible place to go and play and we have to maximise that advantage.
“We want to put a show on for our fans and make them really proud and passionate about the Phoenix, and we want to create that buzz for the next generation that Bev and the women’s team have done.”
Wellington Phoenix memberships are on sale next month, with renewals starting next week.
Tickets for all matches will be on sale in September.
The women’s draw for the 2026-27 Ninja A-League is expected to be released next month.
