Macey Fraser and the Wellington Phoenix have mutually agreed to terminate the remainder of her contract with the club.
The talented midfielder made seven substitute appearances for the Phoenix in their history-making 2025-26 Ninja A-League season after sitting out the opening months of the campaign to address her mental health.
Fraser, 24, launched her professional career in Wellington during the 2023-24 A-League, scoring three goals and leading the Nix with five assists before making a record transfer to Utah Royals in the National Women’s Soccer League.
She returned to Wellington on a three-year deal last year.
The Phoenix have agreed to release Fraser from the remaining two years of her contract to allow both parties to explore other options.
Director of football Shaun Gill has thanked Fraser for her contribution to the club.
“We wish Macey all the very best for the next chapter in her life,” Gill said.
“Last season was very challenging for her but she put a lot of hard work in to get back on the pitch and was an integral member of our women’s squad which reached the club’s first grand final.
“Macey had several memorable moments in Phoenix colours and we will take a keen interest in what the future holds for her.”
Macey Fraser is grateful to have been part of such an historic season for the club.

The Wellington Phoenix still have 17 women’s players contracted for the 2026-27 Ninja A-League with further squad announcements to follow before the team assembles for pre-season training at the start of September.
