The curtain has come down on the Wellington Phoenix academy season.
In the Dettol National League, the men’s reserves concluded their season with an incredible 7-2 win over Western Suburbs.
Two goals just before halftime, from Fergus Gillion and Gabriel Sloane-Rodrigues, gave the Nix a 2-1 lead at the break.
And the game exploded in the second half as the academy side took a commanding lead.
Gillion scored again, while Hayden Thomas added a brace himself. Jayden Smith and Luke Mitchell also netted, ending the season on a high note.
The U-17 men’s side were also in the spotlight as they travelled to Melbourne for an end of season tour, coming back home with two wins and a loss.
Goals from Jack Clegg, Zach Cashmore, and Charlie Hale secured a 3-1 win over Melbourne Victory’s U-17 team, while Hale struck again in a 1-0 victory against Northcote City.
The trip ended with a tight 2-1 defeat to a strong Melbourne City.
The Wellington Phoenix academy will resume operations in the new year, looking to build off a successful 2025.
