Australian Professional Leagues (APL) have reached a new agreement with Sky to broadcast the next three A-Leagues seasons in Aotearoa, with one match a week to be free-to-air.
The partnership extension means all matches in the Isuzu UTE A-League (kicking off October 18) and Ninja A-League (kicking off November 1) will be broadcast on Sky Sport and streamed on Sky Sport Now and Sky Go.
All Wellington Phoenix matches, men and women, will be broadcast live on Sky Sport, with one A-League match a week to be free-to-air on Sky Open.
The inaugural New Zealand derby will be the first Phoenix match on Sky Open, with the women’s round three fixture at Newcastle Jets and the men’s sixth round match against Melbourne Victory also to be broadcast free-to-air. The remainder of the fixtures on Sky Open will be announced at a later date.
Phoenix general manager David Dome is thrilled Sky will be bringing the A-Leagues to the living rooms of Kiwis for another three years.
“Sky’s live broadcasts are unrivalled, and they’ve done a great job of capturing the emotion of our passionate fans for the past 17 years,” Dome said.
“Auckland FC’s arrival means there will be more local interest in the A-League than ever before so it’s fantastic there will be one match a week free-to-air on Sky Open.
“The New Zealand derby matches are going to be a must watch.”
Sky CEO Sophie Moloney says the upcoming A-Leagues season is guaranteed to be appointment viewing.
“We’re pleased that we will continue to be the broadcast home to a passionate and growing sporting code, spearheaded here in Aotearoa by a couple of really energised and ambitious local clubs,” Moloney said.
“We’re excited to see what we can achieve together in terms of innovation around commercial partnerships as part of our home games production, alongside our broadcast coverage of every single minute of action.”
