The Wellington Phoenix and Capital Football have announced a ticketing initiative that looks set to benefit both the local football community and the Wellington Phoenix.

The Wellington Phoenix and Capital Football have announced a ticketing initiative that looks set to benefit both the club and the locall football community.

For the Wellington Phoenix vs Melbourne Heart game at Westpac Stadium on Sunday January 29, the Phoenix and Capital Football have joined forces in an initiative that sees the ticket revenue split between the Phoenix, local football clubs and Capital Football.

Wellington Phoenix Head of Marketing David Dome said the Phoenix is sensitive to what is happening in its local supporter base, and wanted to provide assistance, while at the same time making it a beneficial exercise for everyone.

“We understand that the Phoenix is part of the local football community and we are conscious that the local football clubs – our bread and butter support – are doing it tough in making ends meet financially,” Dome said.

“At this time of year, in the lead up to the start of the 2012 season, fundraising has to begin and we want to help out with that.

“Obviously we also wanted to make it worthwhile for us as a club so we sat down with Capital Football to nut out an idea that would work”.

Dome says that what they came up with was a slightly discounted price for football clubs coupled with a revenue share that will hopefully benefit all parties.

“There is no doubt that the club has been disappointed with the size of crowds recently,” Dome said.

“In order to encourage supporters back, and to make it as affordable as possible while also benefitting the game in Wellington we-ve come up with this initiative. The idea is that everyone will be better off.”

Capital Football CEO Grant Herman says that it-s been a great exercise to be a part of.

“This is an example of the good working relationship we have with the Phoenix,” Herman said.

“We are really pleased that we can work on this initiative with the Phoenix and hope that local clubs take full advantage of this opportunity to get in behind the club while at the same time generating some all important revenue for the upcoming season”.

Herman said that the funds generated by the initiative will go towards supporting the game at grass roots level.

“We-ve got a number of initiatives underway and we see these funds as supporting the game at the local club level. We want to continue to grow and support the development of the game as detailed in the Whole of Football plan and our own strategic plan”.

The promotion goes live on Wednesday 18 January at 9am.
