Tessel Middag was the third of the Wellington Phoenix’s visa signings during the Ninja A-League season.
The former Dutch international joined the Phoenix from Rangers FC in Scotland, where she won six trophies over four seasons.
Middag started her senior career at ADO Den Haag in 2011. She won the Dutch league and the cup with Den Haag before moving to Ajax.
She also lifted the Dutch Cup with the Amsterdam giants before moving to Manchester City in 2016 to play in the English Women’s Super League.
Middag won the league in her first season in Manchester before suffering two serious knee injuries which stalled her career.
She spent the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons at West Ham and Fiorentina respectively before making the move to Rangers FC.
Middag has been capped 44 times by the Netherlands at senior level. She made her debut in 2012 and played at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, but missed the Netherlands’ Euro 2017 championship win and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France because of injuries.
> 2024-25 season
Tessel Middag made 30 appearances for Rangers FC across the Scottish Women’s Premier League, the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the two Cup competitions.
Middag started 19 matches, scored two goals and assisted four others.
Rangers FC third in the league, narrowly behind champions Hibernian and runners-up Glasgow City.
Middag hopes her wealth of experience can help the Phoenix and her new teammates.
“That was one of the things that excited me when I spoke to the club. I would love to win something with this club and be part of the first Phoenix team to lift a trophy.
“At all of the clubs I’ve played for we’ve competed for trophies and I want to be able to do that in Wellington.”
