Wellington Phoenix have signed 21-year old midfielder Cameron Devlin from Sydney FC on a two-year contract.
The central midfielder arrives having appeared in seven Hyundai A-League matches in the 2018/19 season, scoring his maiden goal in a 2-0 win against Adelaide United in March 2019.
He also made his AFC Champions league debut against Kawasaki Frontale in May.
Devlin was born in Sydney and played in the National Premier Leagues of New South Wales with Sutherland Sharks before his move to the Western Sydney Wanderers NPL side.
Sydney FC then signed him for their 2017/18 NPL side and his progression throughout the season brought him to the attention of the first team setup.
The youngster signed for the Hyundai A-League side at the beginning of the 2018/19 season and impressed in his appearances, prompting a move from his Assistant Coach at Sydney FC, and now Head Coach at Wellington Phoenix, Ufuk Talay.
“Devlin is a hard worker who enjoys getting on the ball, so he fits into my vision for this season of creating a mixture of youth and experience.”
Devlin is keen to prove he can establish himself in Talay’s setup as he plans to fight for a place in the starting XI ahead of the new campaign.
“I’m very grateful to Ufuk for bringing me here to Wellington and I’m looking forward to working really hard and giving it my all for the fans here in Wellington.
“I thoroughly enjoyed working with him last year and are really looking forward to the chance to work with him again.
“I know that Wellington is a family orientated club and I’m glad to be a part of that for the next couple of seasons.”
Devlin will start pre-season alongside his teammates later this week as preparations for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season begin.
