The Nix sign MOU with Blind Low Vision NZ and Lower Hutt City AFC

The Wellington Phoenix have entered into an exciting new partnership with Blind Low Vision New Zealand and Lower Hutt City AFC.

The three organisations have joined forces to stage football sessions for members of the blind and low vision community in the Hutt Valley and wider Wellington region.

Once a month, on every second Saturday of the month, starting June 14, sessions will be run from 11am-12pm in Lower Hutt City’s indoor turf at Fraser Park, the home of the Wellington Phoenix.

The sessions will primarily be run by Blind Low Vision New Zealand, with support from Lower Hutt City and the Phoenix.

“With the generous help of Wellington Phoenix FC and Lower Hutt City AFC we’ve been able to create a safe, fun space to experience blind football,” Blind Low Vision New Zealand Sport & Leisure Advisor Jeremy Brown said.

“It’s a brand new opportunity for people from the blind low vision community to keep active and make new friendships with other people who share a passion of the beautiful game.”

“We’re really pleased to join forces with the Wellington Phoenix and Blind Low Vision New Zealand and provide access to our superb facility,” Lower Hutt City AFC Director of Football Alistair Yates said.

“It’s fantastic to be able to support the Blind Low Vision community to experience football in a safe and fun environment!”

“We are continuously looking at opportunities to influence football being more accessible here in the capital,” Wellington Phoenix academy operations manager Eilish Graves said. “So, we are really excited for this partnership and to support the work of Blind Low Vision NZ.

“Thank you to Lower Hutt City AFC for coming on board and providing the perfect venue for the sessions, we are grateful for your continued support.”
