The Wellington Phoenix continued their pre-season preparations with a 5-0 win over Miramar at Petone-s Memorial Park on Wednesday night.

The outing provided a confidence booster for the strikers with Tyler Boyd scoring twice and Kenny Cunningham, Jeremy Brockie and Roy Krishna also finding the net.

Cunningham opened the scoring in the second minute and then turned provider for Brockie to make it 2-0 13 minutes later.

Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Phoenix made changes in the second half and it was substitute Krishna who made it 3-0 in the 66th minute.

A clever back heel by Krishna set up Boyd for the fourth from close range and the same player completed the scoring with Krishna again the provider.

Phoenix assistant coach Chris Greenacre was satisfied with the performance and that the strikers got on the score sheet.

“It was a good hit out for us because Miramar are a team in form,” Greenacre said.

“Tonight was about us and how we want to play and on that score I was reasonably happy.

“So far as the strikers are concerned there is never a bad time to hit the back of the net.

“It is a real confidence booster for those who scored the goals.

“There is always room for improvement but you have to be happy with a 5-0 win.”
