The Wellington Phoenix will return to Melbourne early next week for the men’s Hahn Australia Cup quarter-final against Heidelberg United.
Football Australia has confirmed the last eight match-up will be played on Tuesday night at Olympic Village in Heidelberg West, Melbourne with kick-off at 9:30pm NZT (7:30pm AEST).
Heidelberg are currently equal top of National Premier Leagues (NPL) Victoria with Avondale FC and play fourth-placed Oakleigh Cannons in their penultimate game of the league season on Friday night.
The Bergers stunned Western Sydney Wanderers 3-0 on Tuesday night to book their place in the quarter-finals. It’s the biggest ever margin of victory for a member federation against A-League opposition.
Bul Juach scored two of Heidelberg’s goals and is the top goal scorer in NPL Victoria, having found the back of the net 18 times.
The Phoenix secured their place in the last eight with a dramatic 1-0 win over Nunawading City on Sunday afternoon, with Hideki Ishige heading home the match-winner in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.
It’s Wellington’s third quarter-final appearance. The Nix memorably beat Melbourne City on penalties in the 2021 Cup but lost to eventual champions Macarthur FC at the same stage of the competition the following season.
