Hooper nominated for PFA player of the month award

Gary Hooper has been nominated for Professional Footballers Australia’s (PFA) player of the month award for November.

He scored goals in each of the Phoenix’s matches last month, converting from the spot in their Isuzu UTE A-League season opener against Macarthur FC before turning in the team’s opener against the Central Coast Mariners in round two.

The 33-year-old Englishman re-joined the Phoenix for the 2021/22 season after a year with Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League.

In his first season with Wellington the former Celtic and Norwich City striker found the back of the net eight times, at a rate of one goal every 138.1 minutes, to help the Phoenix to an historic third place regular season finish.

Western United defender Leo Lacroix and Melbourne City forward Andrew Nabbout are the other nominees revealed by the PFA’s nominations committee – a panel of former players and media figures.

A-League men’s players will now vote, with the winner to be announced on Friday.
