A shortened slate of games for the Wellington Phoenix academy.
Persistent rain meant that the women’s reserves, U16 girls, U15 boys, and U14 boys all had their games cancelled, but there was plenty of drama in the matches that did go ahead.
The men’s reserves won a thriller away at North Wellington 3-2, going ahead twice through Lachlan Candy and Ryan Watson, but being pegged back both times.
However, Anaru Cassidy came up with a stunning goal in the ninth minute of added time to secure all three points and keep the side second in the Dettol Central League table.
The U18 men also were the beneficiaries of a late winner, Luqman Ibrahim scoring with five minutes to play to make it 2-1. Philip Azevedo had earlier put the Nix into the lead.
Finally, the U16 boys went down 5-3 to North Wellington. Grayson Lunman, Dylan Tollervey, and Fionn Howard scored the goals for the Phoenix.
This weekend, the men’s reserves host Waterside Karori at Fraser Park.
The U18 men, U16 boys, and U15 all also play Karori in this round.
The women’s reserves, U18 women, and U16 girls face Miramar Rangers, and the U14 boys travel to Western Suburbs.
