A difficult set of results for the Wellington Phoenix academy.
The U-17 Football Ferns exited the age group World Cup at the group stage, having suffered losses to Japan, Paraguay, and Zambia.
Seven academy players were in the squad, with Katie Pugh scoring the side’s only goal of the tournament against Paraguay.
It was a tough weekend on the domestic front too, with both men’s and women’s reserves suffering heavy losses in the National League.
The women’s reserves went down 4-1 to Wellington United, Macey Fraser’s stunner only ending as a consolation goal.
And the men’s reserves took an early lead against Miramar through a Luke Supyk header, but also ended up with a 4-1 defeat.
This weekend, the women’s reserves host Central Football, while the U-18 women play Capital Football midweek before also facing Central on Sunday.
The men’s reserves have a bye.
