Academy Roundup – Week 20

A near-perfect weekend for the Wellington Phoenix academy, with six wins from eight. 

The men’s reserves went down 2-0 to Western Suburbs after a first half red card reduced them to ten men. 

The women’s reserves beat Waterside Karori 2-1 courtesy of an Alyssha Eglinton goal and Grace Bartlett’s penalty. 

Two goals from Jacob Kleinsmith helped the U18 men defeat Victoria University 3-1, Riley Allison scoring the other.

There was also a 3-1 win for the U18 women against Moturoa AFC, Kya Solomon, Bridie Christie, and Anais Lecarpentier all on the scoresheet. 

The U16 girls fell 3-0 to Stop Out, but the U16 boys had a crushing 6-1 win over Miramar.

Vasilios Kastrinakis, James Law, Charlie Farac, Vladyslav Novikov, Zach Cashmore, and Thomas Wilkinson all scored. 

And the U15 boys also enjoyed a big win, 6-2 against Wellington Olympic. Harry Grosso’s hattrick was the headline, while Shaina-Nashe Marahwa got two and Charlie Farac nabbed one. 

Finally, the U14 boys beat Petone 7-0. 

This weekend, the women’s reserves host Cashmere Technical in the Kate Sheppard Cup semi-final at Fraser Park. 

It is part of a triple header with the U18 women playing Palmerston North Marist and the U16 girls facing Miramar Rangers. 

The U18 men travel to Wainuiomata, while the U16 boys play Upper Hutt City. The U15 boys are against Western Suburbs.
